architektonima, by Maya Christodoulaki, is
a creative architectural practice forging a distinctive approach to spatial
creation: it is both embedded in the materiality and the making of buildings,
as well as, active in research and theory. The space-making methodology is
rooted in a profound engagement with mathematical thinking and natural
philosophy, and is practiced and applied using architecture, signals and
weaving.
Aorta 2016This project explores the concept of a promised land as a singularity and envisions the topography of an individual’s multiplicity of utopias. Within Aorta, the timeless ideal of paradise on earth is reimagined as a harmonious environment, structured through synchronized pulsating geometries. By translating textual utopias into personalized motion ranges and rhythmic stimuli, the project mediates the relationship between the intuitive and the digital. The spatial configuration proposes gestural and instinctual forms of landscapes, embracing and celebrating the inhabitation of transitional spaces. Upon engaging with the experience, the creator is immersed in the embodiment of their own body language, oscillating between the resonances of an approachable heaven. As glitchy, resonating beats animate the space, they guide the visitor, blurring the boundaries between the real and the fictional, between sounds and bodies, across temporal
dimensions.
